Charge 5 stopped working after swimming with it

I was swimming for about an hour on Saturday,  April 15, and forgot the water lock.  After I got out of the pool, the fitbit screen was black. I figured it needed charging thinking that being in the pool drained it. Charged it last night and it showed 100% charged.  However. It doesn't stay synced to my phone and the screen is still black. I tried resetting with the charging cord.  No change.  Tried synching, no change. Tried changing clock faces- no change.  Black screen and no vibrations. HELP

Hi there, @nmliggins1105. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Charge 5 before reaching out.

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

You don't need to turn on the water lock before going in the pool. The water lock just turns off the heart monitor sensor because it doesn't work well in the water. If you are still within the 1 year warranty period, call customer service. They should replace your defective Charge 5 with no argument.

It fully charged. It shows 100%
But when I take it off the charger, it goes blank again and doesn't respond to taps.

Hi MarreFitbit, like the others I recently went for a swim and my Charge5 was black afterwards & wouldn’t respond. I followed all yr steps and after 2 days it finally responded & charged to 100% but unfortunately the charge only lasted 30mins at best & did the same thing repeated. Has the battery been damaged? I have swum with it before and there was no problem. Any ideas??? David
