Charge 5 stopped working yesterday 7/5/24

It seems like I’m not the only one so adding my post as well. My charge 5 cycled vibrations and showing the Fitbit logo on screen several times while I was wearing it and then went black and has not done anything since. I’ve tried all the trouble shooting tips given and no success. Device is only a little over a year old. Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

My device did the EXACT same thing on 7/5/24.   The screen is dark now and won't come on.   I put it on the charge stand and it showed lines and then the logo and shut off permanently.  It will not come back on.  It is 1 1/2 years old, purchased during black friday 2022.

Definitely appears to be a Fitbit issue…mine was also about a year and a half old as well. Hopefully they’ll rectify the situation

I reached out to Fitbit directly and went through all recommended steps to try to revive it with no luck. I was told yesterday morning within a few hours via email I would get warranty or next step information. Not surprised I haven’t actually received an email yet.  Seems like Fitbit is dodging an issue that appears to be their problem. The more I read on here these last few days the less trust I have in this company. Real shame because I always enjoyed my trackers and scale…might be time to move on

Exactly the same happened to mine. This was an in warranty replacement that I got less than a year ago. The original warranty had run out but all I get in chat support is, sorry, out of warranty. I understand but no real action so far on the fact I've had 2 devices and neither have lasted a year. Asked for my case to be escalated but not holding out any hope.

This does appear to be a common problem.
Fitbit Support take their sweet time over responding to a webmail support inquiry (seven or eight days for me), and when they do it is just advice to do all the things you’ll already have tried after reading about similar issues in this forum.
(Numerous factory resets did eventually bring mine back to life, but current drain is ridiculous. A tracker with a battery life of an hour is obviously still useless, but since the original issue has cleared they’ve closed that case… so I’ve opened a new one.)

I am guessing that this is the failure time of the product. By looking at all of the recent comments this product was only viable for about two years. This seems to be common with their products as I have had a couple of them and warranty was only still on for one. So disappointed as mine just went out too. Did the same as you mentioned.

There are many of us who are having different problems since Google appeared. I have yet to see Fitbit come up with good solutions to the problems. They keep us busy with resets and things like that.

Mine is days shy of 1 year. Same issues started 7/3 for me. What email did you reach out to them? I've tried chat, then tells me not available. I've tried calling (once a day since 3rd) just to get disconnected each time. I was thinking maybe holiday and all. But same thing today.

I went into chat support and worked through the troubleshooting with them online. I ended up getting a 50% off a new charge 6 coupon. It's ridiculous that these things don't even last 1 ½ years.

My one was a replacement from this time last year too, it just completely died and now it will keeps restarting only on charge. I've emailed twice since Saturday 6th still no reply.

I've tried all the troubleshooting and still not working. It's very frustrating

I used Chat. I now have to call as nothing worked with the assistant in
chat. I waited on chat for over an hour, got disconnected but when I
reopened I was still in the queue. Guessing the products are designed to
fail now after a period of time like some other products out there.

Mine died last night.  Just a blank screen this morning.  Here's what worked for me.

On the phone:  Unpaired the charge 5.  Disable Bluetooth.

Reset the charge 5 via the charger cable three button sequence.  Leave fitbit on the charger cable

Back on the phone:  enable Bluetooth.  Pair with the charge 5 and complete the fitbit setup.

My charge 5 version is 57.20001.188.58

No guarantees this will work for you but I tried a lot of variations before this and it finally worked.   The battery is at 99% after two hours  -- so far so good...

UPDATE:  I wore the fitbit all day today.  So after about 28 hours it's still working normally and the battery is at 89%, right where I expect it to be with a few notifications and using the timer several times.

Exact same for me as well.  Waiting for that email regarding the warranty but not holding my breath, agreeing that is time to move on from Fitbit.  Kinda sad, can be used as a case study in bad business.

Same thing happened to me. I was able to get on with Fitbit support and they gave me 50% off a new one. I'm not sure if I'll use it, as my device was 15 months old and not sure if that is a good investment if the next one will just die again. The charge 5 seems to still work / track steps and everything, the screen is just black. Cleary a Fitbit issue, very frustrating that they aren't taking responsibility for it

YIKES! Came here today because I charged my charge 5 overnight and it is now unresponsive. Telling me that this is trash? Ridiculous!

Best Answer

That's ridiculous!

Same thing here, eternal rebooting until the red circle with the X appears.  I called support yesterday and they asked me to change the clock face (?!), wait till the battery is 100% (really?!) and that was it, nothing else they could do. My Charge 5 is 1.5 years old, so there is no warranty for their design flaw. Check this community and they mark the problem as SOLVED (LOL). Hundreds of posts and youtube videos, no solution, no word from Fitbit.

My wife and I have had several fitbits over the past few years and love the features. But none has lasted over 2 years. My charge 5 quit (wouldn't hold a charge) after a 1 1/2 years and I got a Charge 6. Now my wife's C5 has quit also at 1 1/2 years. I got her a different brand and when my C6 dies also next year (I assume), I will be changing too. I'm done with Fitbit!!

Which brand did she switch to? I’m currently debating which tracker/watch to go with.
