Charge 5 stuck on Fitbit logo and red light is flashing constantly

After 8 months of working fine, charging once a week, two days ago my fitbit Charge 5 ran out of battery four days early. I charged it, but it wouldn't take. The phone app is stuck on the day before and at 15% charge. Screen is blank. I cleaned the contacts, tried to charge again. No change, except the logo appears and disappears.

Now, the red light on the bottom of the device is flashing constantly. There is no way to shut it off, nothing appears on the screen. There is no connection between the watch and the software on my phone. The phone app shows a red circle with an exclamation point in it.

What is going on? Did the device die? How do I fix this?

Thanks for any help.

Ed

Hi there, @ejbSF. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still unresponsive. I understand where your concern is coming from, I will do my best to help you with this!

As a first approach, please note that sometimes a Fitbit doesn’t seem to be charging when actually the issue is that it has become unresponsive (this can happen if the battery has been allowed to discharge completely). I'd recommend putting it on to charge on a charging wire and outlet known to be working.  Leave it on the charger for a good two hours, even if it doesn’t seem to be charging.

When it has had two hours, try restarting your Charge 5. I would recommend trying this maybe twice in a row if a first try doesn’t work.

If the above doesn't work, please confirm whether you tried the steps provided here Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?

Let me know if once you manage to bring back your Charge 5 to life, you continue seeing the Fitbit logo.

Hi, Maria, thanks for the reply.

I have tried all your suggestions repeatedly and the watch remains unresponsive. Now, even the red light on the back is off. The screen has never shown anything since this started: no logo, no time/other settings, nothing. Just black.

The battery ran out early this week, as I said. Since then I've charged again and again, and the only thing that happens is that red light. Now I don't even have that. I suspect the battery has failed.

What next?

Thanks, Ed

Hello @ejbSF

Since you've tried the recommended troubleshooting steps without success, you should contact Fitbit support (<-- click link). If they confirm that your device is defective, they will let you know what are your options under warranty.
