Charge 5 turns off and becomes unresponsive after a few hours of use

I got a new charge 5 as a gift but I've encountered a problem where it automatically shuts off sporadically after a few hours of use. It's not in sleep mode or water lock mode. The screen is entirely black, does not respond to double taps, it stops collecting data, and does not sync with my phone when it is in this state. The weird thing though is when I plug it in to a charger it'll turn back on and start working for a few hours again. Also, it doesn't seem like it's a dead battery issue because when I plug it in after it "dies" it'll show there's still like 90-95% battery remaining.

I'm not sure if there's some weird lock mode or something I'm not sure of, but it feels like something is definitely wrong with it. If anyone knows whats going I'd appreciate any help.
