Charge 5 won't connect to the Fitbit app

Charge 5  can't connect to Fitbit app. It pairs to Bluetooth no problem. Then I go to Bluetooth to connect, I get message: App is needed to use this device.  The app is there and Fitbit paired to Bluetooth but I just can't connect to the app. Have deleted and installed the app several times but same result.

Hi there, @Grits4you. It's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still not connecting to the Fitbit app. I will do my best to help you with this!

In addition to the steps you've done, please try the following steps in the order listed:

  • Unpair your Fitbit device from your phone's Bluetooth and Fitbit app.
  • Unpair other Bluetooth devices that you may also have paired to your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. This can help to prevent connectivity issues or Bluetooth interference.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
  • Set up your Fitbit device.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Fitbit device.
  • Once your Fitbit device is paired and syncing, please proceed to set up your other Bluetooth devices to your phone again.

With the steps above, what I want you to do is to pair your Charge 5 first to your phone's Bluetooth settings before any other Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.

@Grits4you Thanks for getting back and for the details provided in your recent post.

As our last resort, I'd recommend performing a factory reset on your Charge 5. Important: Take into consideration that a factory reset deletes any stored data, which includes all data that hasn't synced to your Fitbit account and your applications, alarms, etc.

To proceed with the factory reset, please follow the steps below:

  1. Swipe down from the clock screen to find the Settings app.
  2. On your Fitbit device, open the Settings app > Device Info > Clear User Data

Once the above has been done, you can now proceed to set up your Charge 5 again by following the steps provided here How do I set up my Fitbit device?

@Grits4you

Are you setting up the device through the app or the phone's blue tooth settings?  You need to do everything though the Fitbit app.
