Add me to the list of affected people. A firmware update ruined this device. Lasted a week between charges previously. After the firmware update it dies in 12 hours. Failbit.

It began happening to me just a few days ago as well.

I have been having the exact same issues.  I chatted three times in the past week with support.  Followed all their recommendations, restarts, omit apps, disconnect everything, etc.  The end result was they gave me a coupon good for 30 days for a 35% discount on a new device.  I just want one that works, and I want the open team challenges back!

I think I'm heading to same outcome. 35% discount on new device. I'm not pleased given my device is less than a year old. Paid $$$ to get a device and then need to turn off features to ensure it functions? Doesn't make sense. thanks for update on your experience

Same. It goes to the Fitbit screen and dies every day no matter what. It’s useless.

They are useless. I've learned my lesson not to buy from them anymore. Some companies make their products stop working so their customers have to spend more with them. I didn't know fitbit was one of those companies.

I had the charge 4 and loved it. It finally died. Then the charge 5. I’ve hated it since day 1. It had issues from day 1. Wouldn’t work. They exchanged it and that took months. Now barely 2 years old this thing is going to the Fitbit screen and dying every day after minimal use. I called them again and all they offered was a 30% discount on their website. Ridiculous.

So I had this same problem. Wont hold a charge, at first it wouldnt even come one. But i finally got it to restart and now its not holding a charge. Icalled and spoke to customer service and all they are saying is unfortunately your fitbit is outside of the warranty. So I have to replace it.

Interestingly enough, the same thing happened to my last tracker. I wonder if it's like how it happens with our phones. The update overwhelms the operating system of the device.

I just went back and looked at my chats with Fitbit support. May 4th 2022. Took till June for them to replace it because I was having so many issues. It was new then. Finally got it sometime last summer only to have it dying daily now. That’s ridiculous. I contacted support again and they said they would offer a 35% discount. That’s not ok.

Two weeks later and it’s only gotten worse at holding a charge…6-7 hours, maybe?
My Garmin watch is doing well though I am accustomed to some of the Fitbit scores. But the Charge 5 isn’t holding a charge long enough to give me those scores.

Yes. And going back I’m confused why it’s out of warranty. I think an
actual phone call with a human is in order. Less than a year is not ok.

I've had much improved experience by turning off always on display. You can turn this off on your device by scrolling up to settings and going to display settings and ensure always on is not selected. I've gone from daily charging to almost once a week. No noticeable loss of functionality.

Never had always on display enabled.

  • Me neither.

Last night, from 100% charged to “battery critically low” in 4 hours.

Mine too!  Must be a design flaw

This is definitely an issue that was caused by the last firmware update. I had no issues until I pushed that update. At first my heartrate had stopped working. So I did a reset on my fitbit the next day, and after that it stopped holding a charge. Died within 30 minutes from being at 100%. At first I thought it was because my fitbit was old, but it didnt make sense for it to suddenly be doing that right after a firmware restart (I used to be a QA tester and have some knowledge in programming) AND the day before the firmware my fitbit had still been holding its charge for up to a week. So ive been watching the forums and a LOT of people started having the same issue after that last update. I left my fitbit on the charger for a week hoping fitbit would release a patch update. They don't seem to want to admit this is due to their update and not the device battery itself. I just took my fitbit off the charger and did a restart on it, it went down to 96% the second I took it off. But now as im monitoring it, somehow it "jumped" to 98% and is holding the charge. We will see if it stays that way or dies within the day.
