Hi there, @beevermike. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues trying to set up your new Charge 5. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

Please note that a Fitbit (Android) App Bug that caused issues with Syncing and Pairing has been Fixed. If you're still experiencing pairing issues, I'd recommend upgrading to the FitBit App version 4.28.2 since it includes a Bug Fix. For more information, see How do I update the Fitbit app?

However, if you update to 4.28.2 and still encounter a pairing bug, I suggest you to restart your phone.

If restarting your phone still doesn't resolve the pairing bug, listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps to solve these problems:

  1. Update [Android] Fitbit App to 4.28.2.
  2. Open the Fitbit App, on the Today tab tap on Devices (Device icon, top left).
  3. Delete any connected Fitbit Trackers or SmartWatches, if any are shown.
  4. Go to Android Settings, Bluetooth (Connected Settings) and "Forget" any Fitbit Trackers or SmartWatches if any are shown.
  5. Restart phone.
  6. Open the FitBit App, re-add the Tracker or SmartWatch (via the Devices icon, top left).
  7. From the FitBit App, Today tab, Tap/Hold near to the top of the screen and then drag down to perform a manual sync.

Your problem with this issue has not been resolved. Nothing has changed.  Charge 5. Still will not sync.  So don't tell me it has been fixed!

Hello @MarreFitbit

Please see the replies after your post. Users are reporting that version 4.28.2 didn't fix the syncing issue.

Please let support know that the problem hasn't been resolved with the 4.28.2 update.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, none of the above has worked.

Updated the app already as well as removing app then reloaded.

Have made sure that no other devices are on the bluetooth.

Have restarted the phone.

It sees the device on the bluetooth but won't pair with it. It comes back a device error.

When you choose the Charge vice under the app it tries to load it up but presumably because there is no bluetooth connection it can't continue.

I suppose if it's not going to work I will have to try a different smartphone or a different phone and try and sell this one.

This is day three.

P.S. I have given my other watch (Versa 3) to my wife to use.

Hello @beevermike , @Janiecoffman , @LGL99

From what I'm seeing, the newest Android Fitbit app update, version 4.28.3, has resolved the syncing issue for most users.

If you haven't updated your Fitbit app yet, please check the Play Store and install the update once it's available to you.

Let us know if you're still experiencing a syncing issue after installing version 4.28.3.

I am on 4.28.3 and the sync problem is not solved for me 😔

The only way I can get things to work is by a forced stop of the Fitbit-app and then restart it. 😡

Yep, thanks for that, l have force stopped it before but this time l also
restarted the phone as well.

After that phone noticed the tracker. The tracker was set up and also
updated.

Regards.

I am very new to all of this and need help. I was able to pair my watch with Verizon Message+.  Verizon is now shutting it down. I am now using Samsung messages. I can no longer get text messages on my Fitbit. I have tried everything even even deleting the app installing over. I hope you can help me.

Hello @RiekoC , @MarreFitbit

I am having a similar problem with my Charge 5 no longer syncing - app message "To sync reliably, let Fitbit link to your Charge 5", go to devices select Charge 5 Sync your device, but it never connects.  It stopped syncing about 15 days ago and I have tried all the recommended sequences of restarting/resetting the Charge 5 and my phone, reinstalling the Fitbit app (currently at version 4.28.3), and turning Bluetooth off on my phone then back on attempting to have the Charge 5 connect first.

The Charge 5 also looses power very quickly.  After being fully charged the screen will come on and will display my heartrate, and collect and display steps and calories for a short period of time (a couple hours) before I can no longer wake it without charging again.  When I connect it to the charger it shows 36% after having been 100% a few hours earlier.  Checking the charging status 15 minutes later it shows it dropped to 25%, then an hour or two later it might be up to 80%.

My old Charge 2 syncs and displays in the app just fine.

Thank you for any assistance you may provide.

Hi, It seems like you are having the same type of problem as I was.

I received some advice to force stop the Fitbit app. I had tried that
before without any success.

This time after force stopping the app l then restarted the phone.

At the same time the Charge 5 was on the charger.

Without doing else l found that the app had started pairing with the
tracker.

It went through a tracker update and in the end paired up and is
now working.

In order to force stop l went into the phone settings, found the apps then
clicked on the Fitbit app and the force stop button is at the bottom of the
screen on the right side.

Hope this helps.

Hello @JayC58

There's a new Android update to version 4.29. I believe this update is supposed to include the fix for the Android users who still had syncing issues with version 4.28.3.

The updates tend to rollout in waves. Keep checking the Play Store for the update and install it when it's available.

Let us know if you're still having syncing problems after installing version 4.29.

@RiekoC

I am now on 4.29. Yesterday it did sync. Today, this morning it did not sync.

I had to stop the Fitbit app on my Android phone. I restarted it and then it synced again. Thats what I am doing the last few weeks to get things in sync😔

Still not solved!!!

Hello @Hendrik55

Thank you for your update. Have you had a chance to clear the storage & cache for your Fitbit app on your phone since updating to version 4.29? Sometimes doing that will help. At least, try clearing the cache.

Let us know if this helped. If it doesn't, I'll submit another inquiry for escalation.
