Charge 5 won't respond to anything

Hi, My daughter's Charge 5 stopped displaying anything. Using charging cable button (3x) caused buzzing but no other response. Screen still blank. Have charged it. We see several posts about similar issues. Fitbit representatives please help! Device is about 1.5 years old

Sad to hear you're having issues with your daughter's Charge 5. Although you've mentioned already having tried that, I'd suggest once again to check if restarting this device will get things fixed as it sometimes requires more than one attempt to work. Before doing so you should make sure you've synced your device to not lose any data tracked so far. Also you should verify that the charging contacts on your device are clean and the charging pins on it's charging adapter are clean as well and can move flawlessly. In doubt, please have a look here:

Next please closely follow these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:

1.) Connect your Charge 5 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a reliable power source.
2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).
3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.

Hi there, @MChari. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided about the issue with your daughter's Charge 5. I understand where your concern is coming from. 

I agree with all the tips and recommendations provided by @Talahthas

To better assist you, please make sure you've restarted your Fitbit device as suggested here How do I restart my Fitbit device?. If the restart doesn't work try to change your clock face. If this fixes the issue, you can change your clock face back to the original clock face.


If the restart doesn't work, please try the following:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.
