Charge 5 won't stay connected to my phone's Bluetooth

If the Charge 5 is out of range for an extended period of time, when the devices are back withing signal range, the Charge 5 won't reconnect without opening the app and actively trying to sync. This wasn't the case with the Charge 2 and some other devices that I've helped manage. I only have the Charge 5 now because I'm responsible for helping to figure out why this is happening. Tech support yesterday told me that one has the manually sync the Charge 5 with the phone. Other devices I have don't require a manually sync every time they are out of range and brought back into range. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi there, @NeverEnoughChar. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5.

Please feel free to reach out to our Support Team once again if you have any further questions or concerns regarding the outcome of your case. Since you have reported this matter to our Support Team, please note there's nothing left we here in the community can suggest other than reaching out to our team again.

Nevertheless, I'd recommend trying the following:

  • Unpair your Charge 5 from your phone's Bluetooth and Fitbit app.
  • Unpair other Bluetooth devices that you may also have paired to your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. This can help to prevent connectivity issues or Bluetooth interference.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
  • Set up your Charge 5.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Charge 5.
  • Set up notifications again.
  • Once your Charge 5 is paired and syncing, please proceed to set up your other Bluetooth devices to your phone again.

With the steps above, what I want you to do is to pair your Charge 5 first to your phone's Bluetooth settings before any other Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.

Other than unpairing all my devices from my phone, I have completed all those steps. If the phone and Fitbit are out of range for an hour or so, eventually (overnight) my phone will reconnect. If the phone and Fitbit have been out of range of each other overnight, then a background reconnect won't occur. I've been testing this over the weekend.

I don't have the time or patience to unpair all the devices from my phone and reconnect them. I'm enclosing a partial screenshot of the BLE Scanner I used on my phone to verify that my phone is seeing the Charge 5.
