Charge 5 won't turn on after getting wet

I jumped in the pool briefly on Saturday and my device stopped working. It also showed low battery. I took it off and now it won’t turn on. I don’t have a button on my USB charger. This is the second time this has happened in 3 weeks. How can I get my device started again?

Hello @RandallStevens

There should be a small inset button on the USB end of the charging cable that came with your device. This article has a picture of it: How do I restart my Charge 5 (<-- click link)

By any chance, did you turn on Water lock on your Charge 5 before you went into the pool? If so, your device might still have Water lock turned on. I found that it takes very firm tapping to turn off Water lock.

Hi there, @RandallStevens. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5  has stopped working after getting wet. I understand your concern, we're here to help you!

Have you tried what @RiekoC recommended?
If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

Nevertheless, I've seen you contacted our Support Team after posting here and they already offered some troubleshooting steps, my best advice is to keep the conversation directly with them so they will tell you what is the next step in case that the recommendations provided haven't worked.

Thanks in advance!

I’m also having the exact same issue!!

Currently have it plugged in and it won’t stop vibrating.

Accidentally got into shower with but did have water protection mode on, dried off immediately, then started to vibrate right after on and off. After that got red circle outline with white x inside and this continued to stay on until battery ran out.

Now plug in and won’t stop vibrating and flashing Fitbit logo

Not sure what to do next???
