Charge 5 won't turn on and battery draining

Recently the charge 6 went on sale.

Didn't ask for any updates on my Charge 5, was working perfectly.

Recently, after the charge 6 came out, my charge 5 screen was showing static, nothing else (like old tv screens) - still vibrating when connected to charger.

Tried a reset with:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable.
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times within 8 seconds, holding each press for about 1 second.
  3. Wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

No luck.

Allowed the battery to drain completely then...

Screen now doesn't turn on at all and charge 5 doesn't charge up.

Tried holding the cable button down for 15 seconds - no difference, get a vibration but that's it.

Why do i feel like Fitbit intentionally pushed out a firmware update to make the device obsolete so i'd go out and buy a Charge 6? I am not buying another fitbit device.. how can i trust this wont happen again in a couple of years?

Garmin is where I am heading - feel cheated out of my money Fitbit!

Hi, @LukmanC! Sorry for your experience, but I can tell you my Charge 5 is still functioning normally.

Hi @MakMak, pleased that is the case for you, but it'd not be an impossibility that Fitbit tries to keep some users happy whilst screwing over others. a few "but mine works" would certainly help shift suspicions. Presently though, either it's something they've not fully tested before pushing out (there's been a fair few posts on this forum from people in a similar position to me) being met with things like "you can get a 50% discount as a way of compensation for this inconvenience if you purchase another product that isn't the charge 6" - which may be generous but do i really want to throw more money at something that likely will break equally as easily, or "sorry, tough luck, it's one month outside of the warranty period".

Presently, the device is not even useful as a paperweight.
