Connected GPS Feature isn't working at all

Hello Community,

I'm having quite a hard time with my Charge 5 and hopefully someone knows how to get it to work.

I use the Charge 5 to track my bike rides and the only working GPS source is the built-in one, which is a battery drain ...

If I set the tracker to use integrated GPS only:

- After 1-3 minutes a signal is found and seldom lost afterwards, maybe a small hiccup every 15 minutes but otherwise it works fine.

If the GPS setting is set to Phone Only:

- With unlocked phone attached to the handlebar (~ 20cm/8in between both devices) and the fitbit app open it basically never connects. Tried rebooting both devices and already resetted the Charge 5.

Last but not least, if set to dynamic:

- Same behavior as described above... it tries to connect to the phone and then falls back to the integrated source.

There are no sync issues between my phone and the tracker (steps, heartrate... all works fine).

Just the obvious wall of text with version numbers if any dev wants to have a look at this.

Tracker: Charge 5, German Locale, Firmware 57.20001.149.11

App: 3.58 20263692

Phone: Moto G9 Plus (XT2087-2), Android 11, RPAS31.Q2-59-17-4-5-1

Kind regards

Patrick

Just a translation error I also want to mention:

At the tracker under settings -> GPS-> the setting to use Connected GPS Only it shows  "Telefonnummer" (that means phone number instead of just Telefon)

Hi @Xetny.

Have you tried going into your phones settings and disabling any batter optimisations for the Fitbit app? Also ensure that the Fitbit app has been granted all of the required permissions, you should be able to grant location further permission (allow all the time).

If none of that works it might be worth re-installing the Fitbit app to see if that fixes things.

@Xetny Make sure the smartphone GPS permission is enabled for the Fitbit app.

Hi,

after reinstalling I checked the location permissions (and changed it to always) and that did the trick.

Thanks for the response :).

Will reinstalling the Fitbit app erase all my settings and accumulated data? I'm having an issue with the GPS not functioning at all with any settings on the bike, but does work with walking and running

Hello Jake,

that sounds hella odd.

The only thing I could probably think of, is the GPS toggle on the bike exercise shortcut.

On the tracker -> select the exercise Bike and scroll all the way down until you see the settings for heart zones, GPS and always on display.

Is GPS toggled off there?

Regards

Patrick
