Dashboard shows steps but not estimated distance

The dashboard shows number of steps but does not show estimated distance.  It shows the distance as well as number of steps on the watch but not on the dashboard.  How can we get the estimated distance for the number of steps?  This was originally asked years ago but never seems to have been satisfactorily answered by a Fitbit moderator.

Interesting, and I had never noticed. This seems to happens (for me) when Fitbit auto-recognizes that I am walking. If I manually start certain activities, like the Treadmill, I do get a distance estimate along with my steps.
