Dead Charge 5 and discount code usage

Was provided with a 35% off discount code 28 days ago that says it must be used in 30 days and on in-store products.  Today the Charge 6 is in stock but the discount code does not work.    Why does this code not work?  Below is the email.

I didn’t even try to use the discount they gave me for my bricked Charge 5. After nine years using FitBits, I switched to Garmin. Good luck.

My Charge 5 stopped working this week and I was offered a discount code for a replacement as well. The email I got specifically says the code won't work for the charge 6, however the charge 5 is no longer available on their website. Not sure how we're supposed to "replace" our charge 5 with a similar device if the code won't apply to another Charge. Been trying to contact customer support but it keeps crashing.  Might make my own post too.
