Disappointed in the Charge 5 heart rate detection

I owned the Charge 4 for almost a year before getting the Charge 5.  Owning a Charge 4 is a bad tutor for owing a Charge 5.  Why?  The Charge 4 could be loosely worn and the heart rate would be detected. Not so with the Charge 5.  After lots of issues with it, I've finally reached the conclusion that the Charge 5 must be synched-up to get an accurate heart rate. How do I know?  I wear another heart rate device when I bike.

I think this is disappointing.  The Charge 4 heart rate detection is an upgrade to the Charge 5's heart rate detection.

I've had my Charge 5 (upgraded from the Charge 4) for two days.  The heart rate monitor stopped working last night and again today while I was at gym.  The sole reason I have a tracker is to track my heart rate.   I have a defibrillator which will go off (aka shock the crap out of me) if my heart rate gets to 200 bpm, so it's critical that I be able to monitor my heart rate.   I read the suggested "fix" in another feed, which is to "make sure the heart rate monitor is on in the settings" and to reset the Charge 5.  I did this yesterday, then it stops monitoring again today.  A fix is needed, or I'm pulling all the original packaging out of my recycle cart and returning it to Sam's Club.   Apparently, this is a widely experienced issue.   And, yes, the firmware updated when I first set it up.

I’ve had my Charge 5 for just over a week now and it has spontaneously turned off the heart rate monitor and the display. If this keeps happening, I may have to return it. I don’t have time to reset the settings every week.
