ECG stopped working in my Charge 5

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I can no longer take ECG readings with my charge 5. My last successful reading was in Feb, but stopped working in April.

On the watch, it just says to put my fingers in the side bands but the reading never starts. Is the watch broken?

Moderator edit: clarified subject.

Hi @ku1185. It's nice to see that you are participating in the Fitbit community.

Thanks for letting me know the inconvenience with your Charge 5.

May I know if the Fitbit app is updated? Is your Charge 5 syncing correctly?

In the meantime, please give a try to the following steps:

  1. Uninstall the ECG app from your Charge 5.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app and restart your tracker.
  3. Open the Fitbit app and pull down on the screen to force a manual sync.
  4. Install the ECG app one more time and make sure the permissions are enabled.
  5. Tap Discover > Assessments & Reports > Heart Rhythm Assessment to double check if still appears completed
  6. Try taking a reading one more time and let me know how it goes.

Hi. The Fitbit app is updated and it is syncing correctly. Everything other than the ECG seems to be working fine.

I've tried reinstalling the ECG app and restarting the tracker. The Heart Rhythm Assessment still appears with my old recordings. However, watch is still not starting readings, still stuck at "put fingers on metal bands" screen.

Hi @ku1185 Thanks for getting back in the community.

Thank you for the troubleshooting steps performed in order to fix the app.

Although I mentioned it before, just let me confirm that your permissions have been added on the ECG app:

1. Open Fitbit app
2. Click on Discover (bottom menu)
3. Click on Clock & Apps Gallery: Apps
4. Click on ECG app
5. Click on Permissions and enable them.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I just checked the permissions in the fitbit app and they're all allowed.

Do you have a metal wristband? The same thing happened to my Charge 5 after I changed the wristband to a metal one. In comparison, I know that a real ECG can be messed up by wearing a bra with metal under-wires, so maybe the metal wristband interferes with the watches ECG signals. I need to change back to the factory silicone wristband to test and see if that helps, but I haven't yet.

I am using the standard silicone(?) wristband, but thanks for your input.
