Ecg resets to 30 seconds while trying to measure

I just received and set up my charge 5 fitbit. When I try to take the ECG reading I see the screen that says 30 seconds and place my thumb and index fingers on the side metal bars. When I do this it starts the measuring but every time it gets between 25 and 15 seconds  it resets to 30 seconds.  I tried loosening and tightening the band as well as trying it on the opposite wrist. It still does the same thing.  However if I bend my wrist at an angle and don't touch the sides at all it will also start a measurement but each time it says the reading is inconclusive.  I have only been using the device a couple of hours.  Everything else seems to be correct although I have not figured out how to monitor the O2 yet.

@Ablackwolfe74 Seems like you have a defective unit. The ECG is read through the electrical contact on the two metal bars and your fingers and should not start without completing the circuit. Suggest you contact Fitbit support for help.  https://myhelp.fitbit.com/s/support?language=en_US

I called the customer service department and they had me clear the data
from the device. Then re- pair it to my phone. This did actually work. I
was able to complete the cycle using my thumb and index finger. Thank you
for your response also! I look forward to using all of the features on the
device.
