I turned on the GPS on my running activity, ran 6 miles, and got the map at the end of my run. What was missing was an estimate of elevation gain on the run. On my Garmin vivosport, the run is estimated at about 880' elevation gain. When I checked the run on Strava, which is now linked to the Charge 5, I do show the elevation gain from this run, but I don't see it on the Fitbit app. I know it's just an estimate, but it's a useful figure. Please advise.
Thanks.

Fitbit uses barometer/altimeter to estimate elevation (it doesn't use GPS data for it like Garmin or Strava). Unfortunately, Charge 5 has no necessary hardware on board.

Garmin (depends on the model) uses altimeter+elevation correction. If you have no altimeter then only elevation correction is used (if you turn it off, you won't see any elevation-related data). Fitbit has no elevation correction and without a barometric altimeter, it cannot get elevation information. That would be a nice feature to have and maybe (due to releasing more devices without altimeter) Fitbit will decide to update the ecosystem (or not).

I turned on "Dynamic" GPS to piggyback from my Pixel 5 phone. Nothing shows up in the app on my phone. The data seems to be there and can be seen in the website version showing the change in elevation. However, the elevation change shows "0".

Yep. And it doesn't appear to be anything Fitbit wants to change in the near future. All of my running and cycling data from Fitbit charge 5 are shared with Strava, and their app calculates elevation gained. So they will be my go-to app for keeping records of that.

Very disappointing. The exercise details includes a graph with the various elevations throughout my walk, run, or bike activities. The elevations it is showing are surprisingly accurate. However, the "elevation again" is ALWAYS "0". At first, I assumed this was because I was using loop routes and starting/stopping at the same elevation. This was frustrating enough, since it utterly failed to reflect all the ascents and descents throughout my activities in hilly areas. It is worse than that though. When I tried it on a one way hike with a definite change in elevation from start to finish, it STILL showed "0" elevation gain.
FIX THIS OR LOSE MY BUSINESS.
