Finally getting some truth.....

Like many users of the new Charge 5, I've been irritated by the constant "turn on location services" notification every time I go to the app.   I've tried everything listed on these forums and it doesn't help.  Today, working on yet another problem I'm having (my daily walks are STILL tracked on GPS with GPS "off" and with the Location Services off and with Bluetooth off)  with the online chat support, I mentioned that like others, I didn't like the notification error.  At least they finally are admitting it's a programmed thing that they won't change:  I tried to post a screen capture from the chat, but I can't, so here's a direct quote:

"We do not have the option to remove that because the app needs it, it's okay if you do not grant the permission but the message will pop up again everytime and we do not have the option to remove that."

Idiots:   The Fitbit company isn't evidently concerned at all about privacy.  So here's a suggestion for everyone:   Don't let friends buy Fitbit.

By default the Charge 5 is set to dynamic GPS which uses both the GPS receiver on the smartphone and the charge 5.

1) To disable on the charge 5 go to: settings -> GPS -> then select Phone.

2) Now make sure to disable GPS on the smartphone (directions for iOS):

Setttings -> Privacy -> Locations Services -> Fitbit (select never)

3) Finally in the Fitbit app:

click your avatar -> third party apps - > settings -> devices Charge 5 -> GPS (select off)

I appreciate this. Unfortunately I still have the issue after completing all the steps you mentioned. Any other suggestions?

I can’t help but wonder, if the app needs it then why is there a “No Thanks” option…? Almost as if they are just trying to bully us into submission. I am also extremely irritated by this…

Thanks for the suggestions;  now time will tell if it worked.  For Step 3 I had to sign in on my phone fitbit app and the order was not what you specified...but eventually I saw a GPS that was "on".   I turned it off.   We'll see but I appreciate your helping.   I'll report back here.

Yes JoeyJoeJoe, the last thing I want to do these days is say "Thanks" to the app.  I'm beyond politeness.

Great! Share the hierarchy you needed for step 3 so others may benefit.

Most of the issue is understanding how Fitbit interacts with your iPhone. Fitbit (Google) seemingly has redundant settings but some of it is for flexibility and other parts is for interacting with iOS.
