This is very frustrating. Fit bit charge 5 will not stop auto logging runs despite me turning it off in the settings on the app. Could someone please help me to resolve this issue.

thanks, Seb

Hello @Sebforrest88 and welcome to the Community.  The Charge 5, and other newer Fitbits, can "auto log" runs in two ways.  Please make sure you have disabled both.

  • SmartTrack is the feature that auto-recognizes seven workouts and is controlled on the mobile app.  When you tap on your exercise tile > Settings (gear in the upper right) > Run > toggle auto-recognize to off.
  • There is an option in the Run exercise on the device itself that auto detects a run and asks you if you want to turn on the Run exercise on the device.  It is on by default.  Go to the Exercise app on the Charge 5 and choose Run.  There is a tiny "^" at the bottom of the screen.  Swipe up.  Look for a toggle for Run Detect and make sure it is off.

Just to clarify a few things.  Is your Charge 5 auto-detecting runs when you aren't running?  Are you doing something else and your Charge 5 interprets it as a run?  Is there something about your movement that might trigger this?  Once my Fitbit auto-recognized a bike ride when I was driving over a very long bridge.
