Fitbit Charge 5 won’t record EKG over 120 bpm

Just got the Charge 5 thinking I could record my pulse during panic attacks. Now I find that above 120 bpm it probably won’t record so I won’t have results to send to a doctor. If this is the case I might as well send it back? Will it record a 180 bpm pulse or at least show it on the display?

Hello @BillyPoteet

Your Charge 5 should record heart rate above 120 BPM. Mine certainly does as I routinely go above this value during work-out or some stressful moments.

But let's try to clarify a bit here: are you saying that the watch display never goes above 120 BPM ? Or it goes above 120 BPM but this is not captured in the app or dashboard ?

Hello @SebWotan

Sorry to interrupt but I think @BillyPoteet  means during an ECG assessment.

I found this information and I think that's what they mean.  I don't have ECG or any expertise, but I think you probably do.

Oh, @BillyPoteet  I just remembered some advice someone else was given in this situation.  If you want a record of your heart rate during a panic attack, if you're able to start an activity from your Charge 5, like a Workout or something and then stop when it's over, you can then rename it in the App on your phone, so that you would have a duration and heart rate information for that period.

You can set up a custom activity from your Dashboard on Fitbit.com by tapping Log, then Activities, then scroll down to the bottom of activities on the right and click on Create Custom Activity.  Then you can enter your own, for example, Panic Attack. Then tap Add Activity to save it.  Later, when you want to rename the Panic Attack you logged as a Workout or something else, you can tap on it, then Categorize Activity and start typing Panic in the Search Box.  When it comes up, select it and it will change.

That would mean you would be able to show the events to your doctor on your phone and find them easily because they'd be handily labeled, but I don't think you could download them into a neat report like the ECG App.

I hope that helps a bit.  I feel for you as panic attacks are scary.

That is good advice.

The ECG scan is giving me inconclusive results most of time, it is more of a gadget I am afraid,

Thank you for the information! That is helpful. I have a new problem now. When I got the FitBit I recorded one ECG just for fun, downloaded the pdf and everything. Since then I have recorded 3 more ECG’s and they do not show up in my results in the assessment where the first one is.

Also, if I do an EDA scan where do I find those results? There is NOTHING about EDA’s in the manual I downloaded.

thanks for your help!

I think I misunderstood the manual. It does record above 120 bpm. I am having trouble recording ECG’s and not getting results in the assessment. My first ECG results showed up but subsequent ECG’s are not showing up.

thanks for your reply!
