Fitbit adding steps I didn't take

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I put my fitbit on this morning, after taking a break the night before, and suddenly it says I've taken a I've 19000 steps. I don't even take that many on a busy day. How can I fix this or stop it from happening?

Also it did this once or twice on my old fitbit which was part of why I got a new one, so it could be my phones app?

Hello @CaitCR

I'm not sure there's actually a way to prevent it unless you can work out exactly what's causing it to happen.  It appears the only thing to do is to cancel the steps out.

If you go to Exercise in the App on your phone, then tap the stopwatch icon in the top right of the screen, you can log an activity for that time period.  The suggested one is to type Driving in the Search Box and then set the Start time and duration to cover the extra steps.

People have found them appearing when driving over a bumpy road, or on their motorbikes or even a fan being nearby when they're sleeping.

I hope that helps a bit.

Hi, @CaitCR, My theory is that if you place your device on a reflective surface face up the sensor array detects the flashing LED and generates rogue data. I found that on the very rare occasions I leave my device off placing it face down, the LED stops flashing after a few seconds. To get the best from your device you need to wear it 24/7, it needs to be charged of course and you can change wrists.

I hope this helps, let us know if it works for you.

Cheers

The time at which these steps where added may be marked as driving.

You will need to contact support to have the false badges removed.
