Fitbit adding steps to app number but my watch says actual steps

My tracker says a specific amount of steps I have taken and when I go into the app it is always more since the update. I tried logging out of app and shutting phone off and re logging in and I forced an update and still logging more than my actual steps. I need to know what to do because I need accuracy. (Example right now my device says 5,837 and app days 5,988)

Hello @Darlee1020 , @Russand99 , @jessiemegk

I saw a Moderator post today (12 Sep 2024) acknowledging the syncing issues and data transfer errors. He said that the team is working on identifying a resolution as quickly as possible.

For now, there's nothing more that we can do on our side and have to wait for the fix to roll out.

Hello @Darlee1020

By any chance, do you have your phone added to your Fitbit app as a connected device? This is an option that is available to track steps & exercises as well as a few other features when you're not wearing your Fitbit. Some users have reported that they get extra to double the number of steps since both their Fitbit and phone are tracking steps.

To check if you have this option turned on:

  • Tap on the device icon in the upper left of the Today page in the Fitbit app
  • Look under Devices to see if it shows both your Charge 5 and Phone
  • If Phone is listed, tap on it to open the Phone page. Then tap on Disconnect device. Confirm Disconnect.

Mine too since Sunday.  Adds 200 or so steps on my phone, but then goes back to match my watch, then changes again.

Just tried this and that isn't it. Thanks for the suggestion

I see many people having this same problem since the weekend.  It's a Fitbit glitch I'm sure.  Haven't changed anything on my fitbit - it just started happening.

Hello @Darlee1020

Thank you for letting us know that your phone isn't a connected device in the Fitbit app.

 @Russand99

I think there's an issue on the Fitbit side. I'm seeing other users reporting problems with step count syncing as well as missing exercise data. For now, there doesn't seem to be any troubleshooting that works to fix the problem. We'll have to continue to be patient until the problem is resolved.

I’m having the same issue. Device and phone randomly adding 8k steps. Just got back from a walk and should have been 9k, now up to 17k. This has been happening since Sunday since the latest iOS 16 update 😖

Thanks for the update! It seemed to be ok towards the end of last week but just added a random 6k steps to my walk today 17/09. Really hope they sort this out soon

Not had an issue for a month and then today 7k steps just randomly added to my walk 🤷🏼‍:female_sign: anyone else still having issues?

Hello @jessiemegk

Sorry to see that the issue has returned.

By any chance, did you recently update your Fitbit app? I know there is an app update for both Android and iOS to version 4.27.

Hi, I did the latest iOS update last month and that’s when the problem started. It’s been fine for a few weeks, but has come back again. Woke up this morning and I’ve done 2k steps in my sleep!

The new version of the application is certainly good. But when will you release a new firmware version with all the problems fixed?
