I had a premium subscription that I just canceled about a week ago. I have now just bought a Charge 5. The membership takes me through December 19th even though it's canceled. Is it as basic as just signing out and then signing back in after that point and I should be prompted at some point for the free 6 months that came with the Charge 5?

That is correct, if you already cancelled your Premium subscription and it takes you through December 19th even though it's canceled, you’ll see your free trial offer of 6 months for Fitbit Premium in the Fitbit app within 3 days after your current subscription period ends.
