Here’s a strange one, my charger 5 and my wife’s charger 5, both work for me but neither worked for her, anybody got any ideas?

Does the heart rate track for her @Docd4u ?

People with tattoos on their wrists can have problems getting the heart rate to track. It could also cause a problem with tracking sleep too as it relies on your heart rate slowing down to know you’re asleep.

I’ve not heard of a case like yours at all.  Does it track sleep but not give stages?  Does it just not recognize she’s sleeping at all?  Here are some links that may/may not help:

Sleep Stages

Tracking sleep

Another thing to try is getting her to switch to her non dominant wrist for sleeping and maybe switching the sensitivity to Normal (if it thinks she’s awake).

It’s a very mysterious thing and I hope you find the answer and a solution soon.

If all else fails, contacting Support (Live Chat is probably the best method) could be a good idea.

First, confirm the fit on her wrist: make sure it is resting 1 finger above the wrist bone.  (ref:https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1988.htm)

If the fit is too loose and/or the device is resting on the wrist bone the sensors will not be able to receive coherent data to switch the fitbit into the correct mode.

Additionally, make sure the sleep goal is properly defined (ref: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1955.htm)

Thanks Wibby,

What is weird is that she tried my G5 a few times before and it worked partly, it only recorded after 1am.  But now that I got her, her own, it has not worked at all.  It is functioning cause I can wear it and it works.  So weird. She has no tattoos, I am the one with tattoos and I have had no problems LOL.  I have tried dominate/non-dominate as well as normal/sensitive and no differences. SlatMatt mention sleep goals and how it fits (she has been wearing it pretty tight)  It works during the day with heart rate and walking.

Thanks again

That's so odd @Docd4u .

I'm sorry nothing we could suggest worked.

I wouldn't set sleep goals or manually start or stop sleep as that seems to cause more problems.  It's supposed to track by seeing how your heart rate slows down and by you being still for a certain length of time. Just going to sleep is the best way and let the tracker do its thing.

In your wife's case, as nothing is working and the mystery is still there, it would be a good idea to talk to Support to see if they can suggest anything else.  I've heard Live Chat is the best option.  At the bottom of the page tap Help, then Get Support (in a grey box near the bottom of the page) and then choose Live Chat.

I hope they can come up with a solution.  Please keep us posted on what happens.

I know that if the period of sleep is less than 2 hours the Fitbit won't register any sleep stages. But it will still show a period of sleep. Does she have a sleep goal set in the Activity & Wellness tab in the phone app?
