GPS is pretty inaccurate

I run at least a mile everyday and wanted a fitbit to help getter better and more accurate data which is where the issue begins.

If I run 1.03 miles it will record my distance anywhere from 0.95 miles to 1.07 miles (usually shorting the distance and it will average about 0.97 miles). I've seen some people say it it overextends the distance, but it shortens it for me. Reviewing the map after my run it shows that I run through buildings, cutting corners through them or just running through them when I run straight. I have to wait about 5 minutes everyday just for the GPS to even connect only to have it not even be accurate. If I run the same pace throughout my run, it can clock my fastest pace as a 6 minute mile and my slowest as a 72 minute mile.

The frustrating part is that one the main face of the watch where you can see the distance you traveled that day it will accurately show 1.03 miles after my run.

I'm hoping people have a suggestion on how to improve this. I've seen moderators say to be in a clear space when running, but I live in a city and that's not possible. If that is the essential aspect of getting an accurate read, then I would have liked to known that beforehand. I'm not sure if I got a bad quality charge because I bought it from the black friday sale, but it feels like such a waste of money and I regret buying it.
