How is my Charge 5 counting steps when I'm on my stationary bike??

I'm new to Fitbit and just realized that in 2 hours on my stationary bike I accrued over 6,000 steps! If I selected the 'Spinning' program wouldn't the Fitbit know I'm not walking/running? Is there a way for it to not pick up steps when you're seated on a bike that isn't moving? I would greatly appreciate any info, thank you.

That's very unusual @btAvanti7.  Are your hands moving while you ride your stationary bike?  Fitbit picks up steps based on motion of the device, regardless of the activity. It is common to get 'steps' riding a bike outside due to movement of the bike side to side and vibration from the road (all of which get transmitted to your hands on the handlebars), but the number you are getting on a stationary bike is really high.  Try restarting from 'settings' on the device.  Also, go to settings for the CH5 in the Fitbit app on your phone and set 'wrist' to 'dominate' (which is less sensitive).
