How to update Charge 5 to the latest firmware version now that I've moved Fitbit account to Google?

Well, all started because my Charge 5 was draining the battery very quick, I basically had to recharged it every day even when I had the GPS off and other features as well.

After reading several people similar cases I already tried the following steps:

  • Removed Charge 5 device from my account.
  • Uninstalled Fitbit app from smartphone
  • Restarted smartphone
  • Restarted Charge 5 device
  • Cleared user data from Charge 5 device
  • Installed Fitbit app on smartphone
  • Paired via bluetooth Charge 5 device to smartphone
  • Setup Charge 5 device on Fitbit app

The device has been successfully setup in my account since I can see data synced and the battery level, but I still see that the current firmware Version is 57.20001.188.58 and I don't see any option to update it.

I remember before moving the Fitbit account to Google the way to check for the latest firmware version was an option on the app going to Account >> Help & Support >> Check for Charge 5 update

Now I don't see that option any more in the new app layout, I go to Fitbit settings, there is still a Help section but there is not an option to check for the latest firmware version, however I have read that I should wait a couple days until I receive a prompt to update my watch, the problem is that this is the second time that I go thru all the steps that I mentioned before, and last time I already waited a few weeks and I never got the update notification.

I am assuming that updating the firmware to the latest version would solve my battery drain problem since I can no longer properly use my Charge 5 device since every time I go out jogging my Fitbit Charge 5 would turn off during the work out session, then I can no longer track down my daily activity.

To be honest I am about to lose faith on this device but hopefully you can advise an effectively work around.

Thank you in advance.

Hi there @LAOL! A warm welcome to the Fitbit Community!

Thank you for reporting this situation and for sharing all the troubleshooting steps you've already tried.

To update your device:

  • With your charged Fitbit device nearby, open the Fitbit app.
  • Tap the Today tab then Devices (top left corner) then your device image.
Tap the pink Update button. This option only appears if an update is available.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and keep the device close to your phone, tablet, or computer during the update. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Fitbit app until the update is complete.
  • If it still doesn't work please follow the instructions described in this article: Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

For the situation with the battery draining too fast please see: Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life?
