Is the red light on the back of the Charge 5 supposed to be always on?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi folks. I just contacted support about my Charge 5 (1) having a short battery life and (2) having the red light on the back always be on. I was given the usual "there is a firmware update coming for the battery life" response and told that the red light is supposed to be on. But I've seen other folks on this forum calling it out as an issue. Can anyone confirm if an always-on red light is normal? I don't recall it always being always-on before I started having issues (And I think I would have noticed it at night).

FWIW, I've tried:

  • Restarting the device via the "Settings" app on the watch.
  • Restarting the device via the button on the charging cord.
  • Removing the device from my account and re-adding it.
  • Factory-resetting the device.
  • Uninstalling the SpO2 app.
  • Checking my GPS settings (it's always been on "Phone").
  • Setting Screen Wake to Manual all of the time, not just at night.
  • Turning off the Heart Rate function.
  • Resetting the watch with the Heart Rate function off.

HI, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @kyliam

Thank you for sharing all this information about what you've been experiencing with your Charge 5 and that you already tried a few troubleshooting steps.

It seems that you already tried all the steps shared in the forums that are usually helpful with these type of issues. The read light you mentioned should not be on all the time. If you haven't done so already, please check if the Do Not Disturb Mode or Sleep Mode are turned off, and if you continue to see the red light after disabling these features.

If you continue to experience the same problem, I do recommend that you continue the communication with the Customer Support team so they can provide you with the next steps. They will let you know how to proceed, but keep in mind that they need to make sure that all the standard troubleshooting steps have been exhausted.

the red light definitely goes off while I am sitting at my desk.  Or. if I take it off

My battery life also is not lasting a day anymore. I suspect it's time for a new one sadly. I can't remember when exactly I bought it but it was during the pandemic.

@MSU2NYC77 Thank you for sharing that you've been experiencing this problem with the battery draining too fast.

I've been informed that you already contacted the Customer Support team for further assistance with this. In this case, they will let you know how to proceed.

@ShadowNinja Thank you for your inquiry. The red light corresponds to the oxygen level and although the red light turns on sometimes, but it should not be on all the time.

Have a good day.
