My Charge5 went black and seemed to turn itself off during my workout.

During my workout my Charge5 turned itself off. The screen went black and I couldn't get it back on until I started charging it again. At the time it shut itself off it was charged 90 percent. It was a huge disappointment and I didn't get my steps or calories during the workout logged for that day. Once it was on the charger it started working again. How do I avoid this or is the device up for replacement? It's only two years old. For the price, it seems Fitbit doesn't last very long.

Mine buzzed like the timer was going off this morning (fully charged) and then the screen went blank and totally unresponsive.  I changed the clock face in the app, and that didn’t do anything. I reset it while on the charger with the three presses in eight seconds, and that didn’t do anything. So then I went into the app and disconnected the device and then deleted the app and reinstalled the app and then reconnected my charge five and for a while it worked. But then about two hours later, it went dark again and I haven’t been able to revive it. It is still counting my steps, but I am missing all the other functionality.  I guess I’ll try restarting it and delete the app again and see if that is a lasting fix. Good luck!

Whoa, you have had a bad experience. The going blank doesn't sound good and that it is on its way to dying. Shame. Thanks for replying.

I spoke with someone by chat after various comments from the community. The fact that there isn't someone to provide answers to address concerns is especially disappointing. I have had this particular Fitbit, Charge 5, for 2 1/2 years and there again it is disappointing that these devices have problems and need to be replaced. They are expensive enough and buying insurance to maybe receive a replacement or to discount buying another one adds to that expense. Perhaps it's me, but when I spend $150 for a product I hope it will work for a long time and not need to be replaced in as little as two years. I have also noted these devices have gone up in price and doubt the quality for the price has. Mind you, Fitbit devices are less expensive than other like devices, but for the price one would think they would last longer than they do and would not have significant problems. I'm off to get a Charge 6 and swallow the full expense again. If I were to rate Fitbit devices, I would have to give it a score of 1 as I have been consistently disappointed on how often I have to replace one and I won't pay the extra cost for a comparable device with competitors. I suppose at some point I will decide they are no longer worth the cost. There are some nice positives with the device that I do like, but again, for the cost and that they don't last or at some point stop functioning properly and intermittently is a huge downside. Would I recommend Fitbit? I would share the positives and negatives, my experiences and would tell someone else that they would have to decide for themselves.

Did you talk to customer service and get 35% off? Do that before you buy
another one.

I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. I decided not to get
another Fitbit and am exploring an Apple Watch since it’s not much more and
has more features. Once bitten twice shy! Good luck!

I did speak with someone from customer service who gave me suggestions, but that didn't work out. Frustrated with the situation I went out and bit the bullet and bought a Charge 6 today. I considered buying the insurance, but it was $40--with the price increase of the Charge 6 I wasn't inclined to buy the insurance and haven't done so in the past. When I went back and looked when at when I got my Charge 5 it was January 2023, so I only had it a year and a half before it started acting up and having problems. What a shame!! I would have gladly taken the 35% off, but wasn't even aware that existed. As a general rule, reaching customer service isn't an easy feat. In getting the Charge 6 set up, one has no choice, but to merge with Google. I'm cautious and guarded with my privacy, but reluctantly merged with Google. I think I will try to reach out to Fitbit again, but have no notions that they will do anything. Thank you for your response. You have been more helpful than Fitbit has been.

You’re welcome. I hope they give you the discount. Sorry you’ve had a
dastardly time with them. I feel I’m complete with them and won’t be
giving them any more of my business.

I have, indeed, had a dastardly time with them. Support would not respond in a timely manner and my patience waned. They offered me a watch band after I reported them to the BBB. I initially said I would take it and had further questions and then an issue came up with my new Charge 6 and when they didn't answer in a day and a half; that was it for me. I told them to forget about the watch band and I took back the Charge 6 I had for only a week and bought an Apple Watch. Very different from what I'm accustomed to, but hopefully I will adjust quickly enough and learn to love it as some of my friends do. Within a few days I will delete my account with Fitbit and the app as well. I absolutely will not recommend them because their customer support is horrible.
