I recently bought a Charge 5 and I hate it. Issues:
raising the wrist doesn’t reliably wake up the screen
HR detection during exercises is way off (like 80’s when I’m in 130’s). And no, I’m not dark skinned or have tattoos.
the notifications (earning exercise minutes, congratulations) are totally useless to me, and distracting. There seems to be no way to completely turn there off.
GPS is wacky. Strava correctly measured my run, while Fitbit had me leap across a river twice and gave erratic results.
low HR limit (40 while awake) is too high for me.
Could someone suggest an alternative wrist worn device? I would like something that reliably measures my HR and sleep, with accurate sensors and GPS.

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @jazmin8!
Sad to hear you're having issues with your Charge 5. As a first approach to hopefully get things fixed, I'd suggest restarting it. Before doing so you should make sure you've synced your device to not lose any data tracked so far. Next please closely follow these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:
1.) Connect your Charge 5 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a reliable power source.
2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).
3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.
I'd like to point out that it sometimes requires more than one attempt to restart Charge 5. So, before throwing the towel, please give it another try.
To improve sleep tracking, setting a sleep goal and a sleep schedule is always a good idea. Here you'll find how to do that:

Regarding GPS tracking with your device I'd suggest using dynamic GPS to improve tracking accuracy. Here's how to do that:
