I'm about to buy a Charge 5 tracker but how do I know if the band will fit me, or is it adjustable to fit a women's wrist?

Hello @copasue and welcome to the Community.  The Charge 5, like all Fitbits, comes with both size bands.  The small fits a 5.1' - 6.7" wrist.  The large fits a 6.7" - 8.3" wrist.
