Screen Unresponsive to Swipes up, down or sidewise; Stopped recording Steps Too

Charge 5 just a few months old will not scroll in any direction, doesn't respond to tapping, stopped recording steps after 6 hours yesterday and almost every morning takes multiple tries to sync. "Help" instructions say to attach charger then "push button on lower end" 3 times to restart. Charge 5 has no apparent buttons and what is "the flat end?" There is no flat end. This is very frustrating. How can it be restarted?
