The Sleep Mode turns itself on each day in the early afternoon. While I'm walking I get no notifications of passing the 10,000 step milestone unless I manually turn off the Sleep Mode. At night I have to manually start it. By morning it's off. I'm told the way to get the Sleep Mode to stay off I have to turn on the Do Not Disturb Mode, which means I don't get notifications such as passing 10,000 steps. Logically, the sleep mode should do one of three things. Stay off unless manually turned on, turn on automatically when it senses the user sleeping, or third, and the most logical, allow the user to schedule a time to start and stop.

Your 3rd option is there, and it sounds like you accidentally have it set to turn on in early afternoon. It is in the Settings App on wrist (not Quick Settings).

I spent a great deal of time looking for "Quiet Modes." I have no idea how I managed to get it to show up. Ultimately I was able to change the schedule. Hopefully it will finally work properly. Sadly, I spent nearly an hour with a technical support person for fitbit who had NO IDEA how to fix this problem. She explained to me if the DND is on, the Sleep mode cannot be on. If the DND mode is off the Sleep Mode will "sense" when to turn on. I told her if either of those modes were on I wouldn't get notification I was passing my 10,000 steps. She had no answer. She asked to put me on hold twice and put me on hold without asking at least once. Apparently nobody in her department knew about this schedule function.

After you get into Settings, you might have to scroll down to see all the options, such as 'Quiet Mode'.

I did scroll down, multiple times. I think it showed up about the seventh or eighth time I looked for it. The Charge 5 certainly has some issues.
