Take Charge 4 now or wait for Charge 5?

My beloved Charge3 after 3 years of serving unfortunately gave up when I took a bath in the Atlantic Ocean (which it should not but it did...) Anyway I accepted that and after couple of weeks sorrow I am looking for a new Fitbit.

I really liked the look of the Charge3 with the pinkish color, I think it super nice. I am looking at Charge4 now but do not find any pretty color. But see that charge5 coming out in great colors. As the price difference is quite a lot I am wondering if it worth to wait for charge5? Look wise it is nicer, but any new functions?

Historically how stable is a new release? Any software issues to expect?

@SunsetRunner Hello!  If it were me, I would wait.  The look and aesthetic of a device is important to me and I agree, I was not a fan of the black or dark purple Charge 4.  When I look down at my wrist, I want to like what I'm seeing.  It's totally up to you though.

Whenever I've had new Fitbits on release, I haven't had issues with software or update.  Everything works perfectly for me.

I'd wait; I'm thinking about upgrading my 4 to a 5 even though I've only had it for 18 months, mainly because I want the colour screen and some of the other functions.

With the 4 there seemed to be a lot of glitches to start with and it took a few firmware updates to sort them all out - mine can still be a bit temperamental at times (doesn't like it if I have email notifications switched on; goes into meltdown and switches off for half an hour while it recovers).  I think it'd be a minor miracle if this doesn't happen with the 5 too, but you never know.

I would wait. I bought an Inspire 2 less than a year ago. I love it and I wasn't even thinking of a new Fitbit, but I am now. The Charge 5 looks so nice and it has a lot of features that I'm very interested in.

I’ve had several FitBits, and very rarely any issues with new releases or updates. Also, for what it’s worth, I just ordered the 5, even though my Sense is only a year old, because I like the look of it SO much better; the Sense is really just too big for my chicken arms, but I wanted all of the features so I got it anyway. Now the 5 has everything I want, but in a smaller form that will be much better for me.

If you get a 4 you can’t use it in the sunlight and it might break after a year. Make sure this is fixed before you buy a 5

100% truth! I just went back to my 4. As I returned the Versa 3, as I did not like it at all. My ionic sadly bit the dust and I needed to use what I had on hand. I now realize why I got the Ionic and put my Charge 4 to the back of a shelf. Absolutely dislike this thing a ton. Just feel so uncomfortable and the screen stinks. I am probably going to pre order the charge 5, only because I do like the smaller screen and that it’s in color :).

If you can swing it, I'd wait for the Charge 5, if not, the Charge 4 is a strong choice.
