Tracking elliptical activity with Charge 5

I am using the exercise programs and the Walk, treadmill work fine, however the elliptical program works but doesn’t count all my steps? A 25min workout logs 3209 steps, 3100ft accession but the Charge 5 only records  2168 steps?
The elliptical is a recumbent, rather then an upright model. Could that be what’s wrong?

@WIC7 Hi there. Thanks for the detailed information shared.

Fitbit trackers are designed to track steps and activity level during step-based activities such as walking, running, or hiking. Though your body is in motion while on exercise machines like the elliptical, this activity doesn't require steps.

We recommend creating an activity log for activities where step count isn't the best indicator of activity level. For instructions on how to manually log an activity, go to this article

Hope this helps.

I ride a recumbent trike & my Charge 5 is not auto recognizing my rides. I do have “bike” selected for the Fitbit to auto recognize that activity. I have to manually record my ride. I am assuming based on your explanation that the Fitbit does not recognize my riding motion as “steps”.
