Got sick of not being able to see my charge 4 screen if there was enough daylight for me to walk around without a torch so I was looking at a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, then thought I'd check out what fitbit had to offer so I could keep using the same app to keep my stats going. Glad I checked the forum before just getting a Charge 5, the forum is far to full of people having problems with their Charge 5's for me to keep thinking about it !

Now looking at the Versa watches, which are a similar price to the Galaxy ...

I have a Charge 5 and the only advantage over my Charge 4 is the screen is much easier to read in brighter light. The Charge 5 does not track flights climbed I used this feature to measure the quality of my workouts. The Charge 5 also would not maintain sync with my phone, it was replaced and is okay now. I would rather have a Charge 4 than my Charge 5.

Note that other Fitbit devices are having problems with their own updates.

Yes, I had a look around various forums here and then widened the net a bit looking for what problems people were having with other trackers and smart watches including battery life, and (to cut a long story short) bought a Garmin. I'm wearing them both at the moment to compare. The Charge 4 counts more steps and fewer flights climbed and only produces a map of a hike if I manually start the activity and it keeps gps signal the whole time - 5 minutes along a trail through bush where you can't see the sky = no map for the entire 2 hour hike. The Vivoactive tells me a lot more, reliably maps all activities including the auto detected ones, has around the same battery life as the charge 4, and is much easier to read on a bright day - comparable font size, it's all about brightness. No regrets.
