Just wondering what other options are out there? I have had nothing but problems with the highly regarded charge 5 which I purchased because my previous fitbit stopped syncing. So, then the charge 5 started having synching issues/ at least once a month. Then the unrequested, undesired update got shoved down our throats. Now my Fitbit dies because I don’t see the power level, it still won’t synth half the time, and I have yet to get a solid two week recordation of my sleep stats.
i didn’t need or want this update. I have ZERO de Sf ire to move my account to Google.
all I want is a freaking device that is easy to maintain, reliable, and accurate. I am no athlete, if I walk I want to know the distance, steps, etc.I did NOT want a device that hides its power level, dies out, loses data, and cannot synch.
So, has anybody out there researched alternatives to fitbit? All the reviews seem to favor Fitbit and I find that hard to believe. I am not inclined to send even more money to Google to reward them for screwing up a perfectly fine app.
what looks promising?

If you are looking for a device that accurately measures and reports steps, heart rate during exercise and sleep data, check out The Quantified Scientist on YouTube. He has tested about 100 wearables in those regards and has charts in his videos that rate them compared to each other. Unfortunately he only tests the accuracy of the various hardware sensors and says nothing about the software user interface on the device nor on the phone.
Just today I received my Charge 5 and I'm already greatly disgruntled with the Fitbit app. In looking for a different clock face and specifically searched for "Charge 5". I was shown three apps and 31 clock faces none of which function on a Charge 5. Even though the Charge 5 was highly rated regarding accuracy, if I do not find a better solution regarding the user interface I will be returning it for a refund very quickly.

Here are his recommendations for smartwatches in 4 price-range categories.

In the past 2 weeks I've bought and returned an Amazfit Bip 5, Amazfit GTS 4 Mini and a Huawei Watch Fit 2 Active. The displays on the two Amazfits we're good but the user interfaces on both watches and the app had no logic to them and in my opinion were very frustrating to navigate. The Huawei app could not even be installed from the Google Play Store but had to be downloaded from a Huawei website. During installation there were several warnings from the Android operating system regarding the permissions the app was requesting. In the end I wasn't able to install the app and connect it with the watch in the United States. So all three of those have been returned and the Charge 5 could well make the fourth. So at the moment I cannot recommend those smart watches and have no better suggestions so far.

Correction - I just noticed in a video that he said he had tested about 75 smart watches. Perhaps he had said in a video that he owned about 100 smart watches.

Oh, I'm sad you couldn't make the Watch Fit work for you. I have the older, Watch Fit 1 and the app is really good. It is in the App store for iPhones so it's surprising it's not available on the Google Play Store.
