When can I pair multiple app gallery devices to my account?

When will Fitbit reengineer so that more than one device with APP gallery can be on one account.  You are missing out on a large number of clients who like to have a work and a dress device.

@arrg We don't have an answer.  I don't think anyone who works for Fitbit will be able to give you an answer.  You can vote for it here on the Feature Suggestion board.

Personally, I have many Fitbits and don't have any issues swapping them out when I want to.  It doesn't take very long.  But I understand wanting multi-tracker support.

It is easy to switch?

Simply have to take the time to setup the tracker, setup notificstions, ew link the cards to fitbit pay and add any alarms,

Best Answer

@Rich_Laue I, personally, find it easy.  I don't use Fitbit Pay, my notifications never change, and the alarm takes like 10 seconds because I only use one alarm.  Again, that's just for me.  Everyone is different.  I find it easy.  Others may not.

Fundamental problem that no one from Fitbit can answer how long it will be before previous functionality is returned.  For those that say it is easy to swap, it now takes 3 minutes minimum to perform what was automatic.  Also for those that are suggesting that I need to post this under feature enhancements,  one it is  not a new feature I am asking for and really, you only look for feedback on your product under one category.   You may want to monitor the entire forum and create your own internal "Enhancement Suggestion" list of things to consider doing....

Best Answer

@arrg that is true, no one that posts in the community is aware of everything that the developers are working on or the their timeline.

Fitbit also, in the past, has been known not to release many dates.

As for how long it takes? As I explained above, for me it is a hassle, requiring a sync, setup, syncs and even then, I have only done a quarter of the aditional steps needed.

@Heather-S any time I log out of the Android App version, when logging back in, I have to setup notifications, and accept permissions, then go through the list to add the 6 additional app notifications.

I find logging out/in such a pain I try not to.

I mostly agree with @Rich_Laue on this one, at least as an Android user anyway. Although it does seem as though my notifications stay intact when switching devices. Unfortunately this is the main reason I rarely ever change trackers, I just can't be bothered with all the messing around.

An intermediate solution would be for the app/device to at least remember it's settings. I'm not sure why Fitbit couldn't have just engineered the app so that we could have an active tracker and a dormant one on the account, which could be switched by tapping a button. That way two (App Gallery) devices are never active on the account, but it's still quick and simple to swap. A bit like two separate environments within the app.

@Rich_Laue I don't logout of the app to add a new tracker.  I'm on iOS, so I don't know what the Android experience is.  Like I said, FOR ME, it is a relatively smooth experience.

I would not log out when changing a tracker, however anytime i change trackers, I have to setup notifications.

I'm just pointing that simply logging out/in also requires setting up a few things. Like notifications, call answering. Sense Controls. Music controls.

To me, it is a big pain to switch trackers @Heather-S

Best Answer

I hear ya, @arrg.  I'm on iOS and find it takes me 5+ minutes to switch to one of the smart watches (Sense or Versa 3).  Takes a minute or so to get the device to show the code to link bluetooth, and then I've got to wait for it to search for and then set up WiFi. Once that's done it goes pretty fast. Switching to one of the trackers is quite a bit quicker because they don't use WiFi.  Agree with @N8teGee that the adding the smart watches would go a lot quicker if they remembered settings (and notifications seem to stay intact when I switch so that's not slowing the process down).

With the Versa 3 or Sense, there isn't any reason to setup WiFi to install them.

Best Answer

@Rich_Laue No there isn't, but you are still prompted to do so. I for one do it at this point, otherwise I'd forget to do it at all.

@Rich_Laue - Thanks, I didn’t realize I could skip the WiFi setup. Just tried it and it does save a few minutes when switching. As you point out above, though, there are lots of things to set up on the Sense that take time (assuming you want to use the features) such as call answering, fitbit pay, media, voice assistant, and, of course, you need WiFi for updates.  All that makes switching a pain.

Do you really need WiFi for updates? It may be cheaper and faster if the phone and tracker is connected to WiFi.

The last watch I have had connected to any WiFi was the Versa and that was for Pandora music.

Yes, I did notice, with the Versa, while charging and the watch connected to WiFi, i noticed that the apps and faces that had available updates before charging where updated automatically sometime during the charge cycle.

@Rich_Laue From what I understand (I haven't tried myself) doing FW updates via Bluetooth is a chore. I would always recommend people do watch FW updates over WiFi.

Totally agree with @N8teGee on all counts.  I do not understand why the app does not store tracker settings like WiFi password and card details when switching between Fitbits.  If it did this would make the switch much quicker.

I still do not understand why a second instance of the app store can not be created for a second tracker.

This is easily done when programming in any modern day language like Python.

@N8teGee while I do have a limited hotspot for my smart lights, Alexis, etc. I have never tried googling a tracker up to it recently.

Yes Bluetooth should take longer but my experience shows otherwise.

With some reporting 20-30 or more minutes and my update taking 10-15 over BT while driving to work.

Some report many issues getting the update to work over WiFi, when after getting a notification of an update. I've started the process while sitting at a red light.

I've have less issues with updating trackers then I have with adding apps or faces to the same tracker.
