I have had so many issues with my less than a year old Charge 5. The issue is the display, the screen flickers, goes whitish grey then black. If I was prone to seizures his would give me one!! I ordered a new one with arrived today. The new one says there is a new firmware so I have tried a number of times to download that with no luck. This is what I see from my account. No firmware version as you can see.

Concerning your issue, I'd suggest to uninstall the Fitbit app from your phone and start all over. While doing so, make sure that your old defective Charge 5 is out of Bluetooth reach with the new device being nearby.
