Will there be a Charge 6 any time soon?

The Charge 5 shipped 18 months ago.  My Charge 4 is currently barely hanging on (cracked screen, watch band barely holding together), but... it lasts 2 -3 weeks on a charge. Tracks sleep and HR perfectly, links to my Peloton devices. It's great.

I've been waiting for the Charge 6...  shouldn't it be announced soon?  By August 2023, it will have been 2 years since the introduction of the Charge 5, time for a refresh.

I wouldn't count on a Charge 6. It seems that Google is strangling Fitbit to drive folks to the Google Pixel watch.  They have been turning off services the past couple of months and its been clear that over the past year with the number of hardware and firmware issues that funding for maintenance and bug fixes has been cut significantly.

Less maintenance resources + turning off differentiating features = end of life

So bad but so correct

If this is true it's infuriating. One of the most irritating things about todays economy is how common it is for great products, services, apps, to get bought up by a giant only to be slowly deteriorated then killed entirely to drive those users to their inferior version of the product. This has happened to so many great things over the last 10 years.

It is sad, my beloved Charge 3 is also hanging on for dear life and I would love to see a Charge 6 but Google seems to be giving Fitbit the same slow and horrible death it gave Nest, each once the best innovators in their own areas... So sad...

I'm in the same situation. I would get the Charge 5, but it does not support Google Wallet (which, I assume, would be supported in a hypothetical Charge 6), so I'm waiting. I hope Google will not phase out smartbands, I don't need or want a full fledged smartwatch (even because I already wear a traditional watch) and the Charge is the best compromise. It's not clear what Google is doing with Fitbit.

Still rocking a Charge 2 😞

I really hope this isn't the case. I belong to a fitness tracking program through my health insurance. I keep checking with them about the Pixel Watch and they have told me that the Pixel Watch is the ONLY Fitbit supported product/platform that they don't operate with. Every single other Fitbit product works, this is the only one? If they are truly taking their watches and trackers away, then are they going to pay me my $1,000/yr that I earn back on my insurance for meeting the various steps requirements? (Extremely rhetorical there).

Don't bother with the Charge 5. Band comes off, moisture intrusion issues.

Wife had one that the factory band kept randomly coming off. They sent a new one which was better. I was able to fix the band issue on the old one and then they both somehow got moisture inside. A watch that is waterproof to 50 meters (164 feet) somehow got water inside.

It's been a flawed design from the start.

Agree!!! I loved my Charge4 , it was simple but not too simple. It is a perfect watch.

Any update on that ?

A tracker is perfect for me. Instead a smartwatch is too much since has a lot of features that i don't use (and i don't care to have available)

Shame. Going to try something else. Charge 5 was terrible user experience. bad charging, always losing power. Should have sent back. Now dead and out of warranty by few months, of course. I think Google will kill the brand.

I also still use Charge 2. I've already replaced its screen once. I would go for Charge 5, but it is missing the altimeter (Charge 2 has one). So I am waiting for Charge 6, hopefully coming out soon.

Charges are released every 18 to 24 months and the 5 came out in the fall almost two years ago. I fully expect the charge 6 this year. And I don't understand these wild rumors about Google killing Fitbit.

I don't understand these Charge 5 complaints, with the exception of losing the altimeter, it's so much better than my Charge 4.

Hmmmm.... Consider yourself extremely lucky to have a working Charge 5. My wife has one too but we expect it to crap out any day now...

Like most people on here, mine crapped out after the latest firmware update one month out of warranty...

Best Answer

Now that it is the rumored release/announcement month, is there any new information?

mine worked for almost 2 years, before a wave stole it while i was in the ocean.

If they don’t have a charge 6 by the end of the year I will be buying myself an Apple Watch for Christmas.

If the charge 6 doesn’t come out by Christmas I’m buying an Apple Watch, I don’t like the Google watches, nor do I want a google product period

Maybe before releasing a new product, they should concentrate on fixing the current one. I'm happy your Charge 4 worked well, but many of us encountered glitches and various problems (by the way, there are cheap third party fixes for the broken band problem) that were never ironed out before releasing the Charge 5. The Charge 5 now has a series of problems you can see here that need to be resolved. A Charge 6 with (presumably) new features that will have new bugs to iron out will just start the whole process again.
