I slept last night at 10 PM and woke up with 500 steps in Charge 5. I am sure I do not walk while sleeping. Moreover, I noticed there are always many extra steps as compared to my iPhone steps counter. what to do?

Welcome to the Community forums, @ZulfiqarAli

Thank you for all the details about the inconvenience you experienced with your Charge 5.

There are a few reasons why this could happen. If you're sleeping close to something that could emit a certain vibration, like a window, a fan or other type of machine. The only way to negate these extra steps would be to manually log a driving activity, as this would override the data tracked during that time.

If you haven't done so already, please complete a three pulse restart and let me know if you continue to experience the same behavior afterwards:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times, pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

In addition, and regarding the number of steps compared to your iPhone, you can find more useful information about the accuracy of Fitbit devices and how to adjust your stride length and dominant hand settings here, as this has been useful for other users experiencing similar problems.

Hope this helps, I'll be around.

I've had my Charge 5 since Thanksgiving 2021 and not had a problem with this until about a week ago. The first time it happened it recorded around 6,000 steps in a very short period of time around 1:30 am. I tried syncing it, but it didn't change. I then rebooted the device and that got rid of the extra steps.  A day or two later it recorded around 1,500 steps. I didn't check the time, but it was during the night. A sync seemed to reset the counter. Last night it recorded 15,000 steps around 3:00 am. Neither rebooting or synching reset the steps. I the recorded a driving activity at 3:00 am for 30 minutes and my steps look more reasonable. I will also do a three pulse restart and see if it occurs again. This just seems strange that it started a few days ago after three months of no issues.
