Charge 5 does not register elevation gain when walking, running, or biking.
There is a graph that shows the elevation variations throughout the activity, however the calculated metric of "elevation gain" ALWAYS shows "0ft elevation gain".
Why even have that metric if the device and app are not going to calculate it?
This morning, one of my walks started at 2552ft elevation and ended at 2705ft elevation. That is a gain of 153ft, not ZERO.
Actually, if you account for all the ups and downs (as would be ideal), I walked down a total of 199ft and walked up a total of 343ft.

Unfortunately there is no altimeter on the Charge 5 so it can't track stairs or elevation. There are numerous solved threads that are discussing that issue.
Many people are upset because they wanted stair tracking. I wanted it too but performed a basic search of these forums to find the information before I bought mine (admittedly there were fewer threads then). It's sad but forewarned is forearmed... I'm sorry you found out after you bought yours.
If it's a function you really need, it might be worth trying the Charge 4 instead. You never know, they might react to pressure and put an altimeter back in the Charge 6, but that's a long time away...

The elevations are displayed in a graph in the exercise details. Apparently it is captured from the GPS data. They could easily calculated the elevation change from the data in that graph (that how I did). Instead, beside the elevation chart, they falsely display "0ft Elevation Gain". Prior to purchase, I saw a marketing mock-up of the exercise details that showed a number (other than 0) in that field. Why even have the field if all it displays is a false "0"?
