Charge 6 - Auto detects start of walk but not end

ANSWERED

Just started using my new Charge 6.  It has no problem auto-detecting the start of a walk and monitoring this but when I stop the walk, it continues.  So basically, I walk into work which takes 28mins, arrive at my desk and sit down, rarely getting up.  I look at my fitbit app hours later, to see it has auto recorded the 28 mins (2mins cardio, 26 mins fat burn) but also added over 2 hours of "below zones" and I have to manually stop it.  The walk measures the time of the 28min walk as over 3 hours, at a pace of 131'09".

I graduated from a Fitbit Inspire HR which auto detected both the start and end of the same walk every day without error.  Have I set something up wrongly or do I have to manually stop a walk for which the start was auto-detected?

Hello @SunsetRunner and welcome to the Community.  Your Inspire HR tracked your walks using SmartTrack.  Your Charge 6 has SmartTrack, but it also has a Walk Detect feature that opens and uses the Exercise app.  The Walk Detect feature is ON by default.  This is why you are seeing an exercise that starts, but doesn't stop.  More on that in a bit.

Here is the relevant chapter from the Charge 6 manual.  If you want your Charge 6 to behave like your Inspire HR, go to the settings in the Walk shortcut and turn off the Walk Detect.  If you want to keep using Walk Detect, then toggle on the Auto-Stop.  Auto-Stop is supposed to pause the exercise if you don't move for 10 minutes.  I have this feature on my Sense 2 and I chose to turn off the Walk Detect.  The Run and Bike shortcuts have this feature, too.

Thank you so much!  This explains it perfectly.  Hadn’t heard of Smart Track before but I’ll revert to this and disable auto detect so I don’t have the hassle of manually stopping every walk.  Appreciated.

@SunsetRunner  Glad I could help.  SmartTrack is the "name" that Fitbit gave to its auto recognition feature.

I moved up to a Charge 6 from a Charge 4.  Like you, I am perplexed by Fitbit's decision not to autodetect the end of a walk as well as the start.  The Charge 4 managed to do this seemingly no-brainer step.

I'm slightly confused as I used my charge 6 yesterday for the first time and went on a walk and as the previous user said it didn't stop afterwards and continued until I paused/ended it.

I'm not sure whether I should be changing the option via the settings in the fit bit app (screen shot attached) or using the watch itself. If I do turn off the auto detect feature on the charge 6, what's the point in keeping auto stop on? Thanks
