I got a new fitbit 6 in April because I accidentally put my old one through the wash.
A week later it showed my HR was spiking very high up to 213bpm off & on throughout the day. And the same happened a month later. I ended up going to A&E and then a cardiologist and being referred for all sorts of tests.
When I came out of hospital the last time (I was in for a week!) I decided to buy a 2nd charge 6 and wear them at the same time to see if they both picked it up.
Now the new device is showing huge spikes from 180 to 213 bpm again, but the device I bought in April has been showing my regular pulse which I took manually and it matched also I took ECG on the newest charge 6 that was saying 200+bmp on the heart, but the ECG showed 71 bpm at that time.
Why are they doing this. It has caused a huge amount of stress. And both devices are doing it so it's not even a one-off.
I'm wearing them correctly. I've restarted them.

Do you have a pulse ox you can test it with?

Hello @LilMissFraggle
Here's a description of the device that was mentioned:
A pulse oximeter, or pulse ox,is a small, electronic device that measures blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate without having to draw blood. These devices are usually small and not very expensive.
