Charge 6 blank screen and will not reset

Hi,

I have had the Fitbit charge 6 for nearly 2 weeks and yesterday the screen went blank and had at least 20% battery still. I tried to charge it but nothing is coming up on the screen. when I plug the charger into the Fitbit it vibrates, also if i push the button on the side of the watch it vibrates.

I have followed the steps by switching to different plug and still no luck and I have tried multiple times to reset the device via the charger button (pushing 3 times in 8 seconds) As well as pulling the cable in and out of the plug to hard reset it but still no luck.

Is there a way to do a hard reset of the device via the button? Phone will not find or sync to the device either as it says the battery is low.

Also to add i have tried cleaning the back of the watch charging inlet as well as the charger itself.

Agree but my original 4 is still kicking. When they come out with a 7 I’ll give it a try

To be fair, I also have a 4 that is still working (apart from a dim screen), but it was replaced once so I cant give it a 100% positive review. In general I did hear that the 4 was also a fairly reliable model, things went rapidly downhill with the 5 and the 6 was just a rushed updated to that because of all the issues. Lets see about the 7, im up for renewing my hardware subscription 😛

Updating firmware on the app worked for me, thanks very much!!

I am experiencing the same issue, briefly I can see the clock face before the grey screen shows, I am going to return this to the store.  In NZ we have a great consumer guarantees act, this is only 6 months old.

Try deleting the Fitbit first then the app. Reinstall, login-then search for fit bit at that point I held the button in until it vibrated and reconnected. Been working so far.

Not sure which of all those was the issue but that sequence fixed mine. Next step was going to be Tinfoil hat!

This happened to my Charge 6 at the beginning of May.  It's intermittently started working, but then goes back to black within a few hours.  This is my fourth Fitbit since May 2022, not sure if I'm going to continue with the brand.  I'll keep using it for sleep tracking, but it's useless as a watch or for weight-training, which I have to start manually.

From my personal experience, everything after the charge 4 is a massive upgrade in design but inherently unreliable. I had multiple charge 5 replacements and my first charge 6 lasted 8 months.  I've been tempted to leave the brand several times but its difficult to find an alternative that offers the same both in terms of the device and software experience. its pretty sad, Fitbit used to be great.

My experiences and feelings exactly!!!!! I’m wearing my old Charge 4 now that has a dead screen but still syncs all other functions. I loved all my charge 6 but alas they all ceased to function. What do we do? Why doesn’t Fitbit address this???

Charge 6 has intermittently had the black screen since beginning of May.  It's still recording sleep and heart rate and syncing with my phone, so I've continued to wear it.  The last time the screen came back, I changed the setting to manual wake because I saw a thin, faint red line each time I raised my wrist to check the time.  I think maybe the switch to turn on the screen wore out or something.  Anyway, it's been 6 days so far that I can turn on the display manually.  It's annoying that I can't auto-wake, but since this one is out of warranty (was a replacement for one bought about 17 months ago) I am just going to wear it til it stops working completely. If I get the rapid-discharge/won't charge thing (which brought down the three previous Fitbits) I'll let it sit for a few weeks to completely discharge, then put it on the charger.  My warranty Charge 6 came back to life after sitting a month.  (Wouldn't work, though, because Google disabled it when they sent the replacement.  I discovered it was disabled in early May when I tried to use that one because my screen went black on the replacement.)

Me too

--------

I too, switched plug--no result, tried resetting too many times to count, waited days between, tried a new app---everything done but nothing worked for dead screen. Think I am going to give up! I guess fitbit is made to last just as long as the warranty does, then Poof!  Good luck to all to all trying a fix. I haven't anymore time to waste on this.

You have to get a new one with the warranty normally.  I usually have to get 2 or 3 of them within the warranty which used to be one year but I think is just 6 months now, so you have to pay for the premium warranty or buy a new one every 6 months, the devices have a very short live span.  **********

----------

did not work, I guess it is just junk that has to be returned?

----------

it has to be returned under warranty if it is past warranty you have to buy a new one they never last long.  the Fitbits have to be replaced at least once a year as they are not built to last.

Thank you for responding. I did get a new one and it was covered under the
year warranty Fitbit has on Amazon. I could not believe the hoops I had to
jump through to get them to honor the warranty. Around 26 emails or a
month! Scammers have ruined any and everything in this world.
Again thanks for trying to help-- you are appreciated 👏

I'm having the same issue as the op. Took it off over the long weekend about 3 and a half days it was fully charged. pick it up tonight and blank screen... tried the three in 8 seconds with the charge cable... nothing tried the 15 second press and hold ...nothing.  contacts are clean but i cleaned them anyway. nothing seems to get this thing back. Is this thing dead or am i doing something wrong?

Edit: Contacted support and I am under warranty (Costco) ... will be getting a new one once the broken one is sent back... here's to hope that the new one lasts longer.

Hi FSC123, it is dead and you are doing nothing wrong, check warranty, good luck.

Hi @FSC123Welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here!

Thank you for letting us know about your Charge 6 that has the blank screen, I appreciate all the steps you tried before contacting.

Since restarting didn't work, please check if your Charge 6 is still syncing with the app even with the screen off. If so, confirm in your app that you don't have any pending updates and try changing the clock face.

If your Charge 6 is not syncing please confirm if it vibrates when you press the button or with the charging cable, verify if the green lights in the back are On and follow this steps ti try another restart:

  1. Connect your Fitbit device to the charger.
  2. Please remove and re-insert it quickly.
  3. After a half-second pause, repeat this removal and insertion motion 3 more times, all within a span of 8 seconds.

For more information please go to the following help article: Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?

Sorry about your Charge 6 doing nothing. I finally gave up and it was under
warranty so I got a new watch bud. The new one works fine--so far. So if
you're under a warranty (i.e. Amazon) I would replace it. If not I would
buy a different watch. Just my thoughts! Good luck! The only other thing I
can suggest--just put it aside for a few days and then pick it up and try
everything again. That worked once for me but in the end my watch died. It
was probably just putting off the inevitable for a couple weeks.
Hope you find a solution!(^o^)
