My charge 6 only occasionally picks up my heat rate, I’ve just upgraded from the charge 2 which never had an issue, so I don’t think I’m wearing it incorrectly. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @Evilgruffalo!
Sad to hear that you're having issues tracking your heart rate with your Charge 6.
To see how to get better results, please have a closer look at 'How do I improve the accuracy of a heart-rate reading?' and 'What factors can affect heart rate?' following this link:
How do I track heart rate with my Fitbit device?

Thanks for the reply, I had read all the info in the link before posting, I’m concerned that the charge 6 has issues as I had no problems at all with my charge 2 tracking my heart rate, I’d theee anything other than the linked info that I can check before I return the charge 6 for a refund?

I think the only other things left to try is a restart and a factory reset. It's worth trying but I'm not convinced either will fix the issues you are having.

Thanks for reporting back, @Evilgruffalo.
Another option to hopefully get things fixed is to restart your Charge 6. I'd like to point out that it sometimes requires more than one attempt to restart Charge 6. So, before throwing the towel, please give it another try.
Before doing so you should make sure you've synced your device to not lose any data tracked so far.
Next please closely follow these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:
1.) Connect your Charge 6 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a reliable power source.
2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).
3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I’ve actually had the same problem lately, which is concerning. I feel like the charge 6 constantly needs adjusting for it to actually read my heart rate and I have never had an issue in the past with older models. I have restarted and reset it multiple times. I feel like every time I check my heart rate I see the double dashes during exercise.

It seems as if modern fitbits have a somewhat limited shelf life. I replaced my charge 5 with a charge 6 because of how they touted better heart rate detection and after about a year of charge five ownership it was frequently not detecting my heart rate during workouts (or randomly during the day.) The new charge 6 did better until it was about 6 months old and now I find I reset it fairly regularly (and constantly clean the detector part in the vain hope) to try to keep it detecting my heart rate during workouts and throughout the day... Think I might try one of the competitors' rings next as Fitbit doesn't have anything resembling longevity and a ring seems more likely to not fail to do the most basic of features which is heart rate 🤷 (this does however explain why Costco quit carrying the Fitbit charge after 5...)

I've had same issue. Updated from the versa4 which had no issues on App but after uninstalling, clearing cache numerous times, really disappointing to still have same issue. No heart rate or water consumption... 🤔

I have finally had enough of the terrible heart rate issues with Fitbit. I have had 4 different charge models. I’m signed up for Abfib monitoring, but now confidence in it being accurate is very low. I have to restart my Charge 6 multiple times a day trying to get the heart rate to work. It works about half the time. You’d think Google could fix it, but my Charge 6 isn’t any better than my Charge 5 or 3. I don’t think I will buy another Fitbit product. I’m so frustrated.😡🤬

I just bought mine yesterday and I’m having the same problem. It picks it up sometimes and then it stops. I keep having to adjust the band. I’m going to try to get a new band for it and see if it helps. The bands it comes with hurts my wrist and is not very flexible.
