Charge 6 inaccurate mileage

My charge 6 is way underestimating mileage.  Units are set to feet/miles.  I walk a couple miles a day and the most it shows in maybe 0.25 mi.  Today we walked 1.9 miles per the MyFitnessPal tracker and my wife’s Charge 6 showed 1.5 miles.   My charge 6 re order 0.53 miles.  Have never found anything on a Fitbit that works as intended.

Hi, @Fschw! How many steps are you showing for this distance? If it's low, like 1000, I would suggest getting in touch with Fitbit Support, your device is not registering steps. If it's higher, like closer to 4000 steps, I would take a look at your metrics, like height and stride length and make sure they're correct.

Hello @Fschw

You can set/confirm your height by:

  • Tap on the You tab in the Fitbit app
  • Tap on the large tile at the top with your name
  • Tap on Height to enter/correct it

To set your stride, click on this link and scroll to the bottom where it has the directions on how to set your stride: How does my Fitbit calculate my daily activity? (<-- click link)

Hello @Fschw

The other way that I know of to update your personal info is via your profile on the fitbit.com website:

  • Go to https://www.fitbit.com/settings/profile
  • You probably will need to log in, if you're not logged into the Fitbit forums on your computer/tablet
  • Click on Personal Info
  • Scroll down until you see Height and enter your information

I went into the website, not the app, and my height was set for 5’11” which
is accurate. Just went for a walk that is about 1.25 mi. And the app shows
0.3i for the day and the device shows the same.

On previous devices it would have been about 2,500 = 1 mile

On this device I finished the day yesterday at 4,700 steps for 0.48 mi.
That’s 9,700 steps per mile.

Almost 4x as many steps per mile.

In Saturday I had 8,500 steps for 0.63 miles. That’s 13k steps per mile.

On Saturday I reached to help, this email chain, and they had me reset the
device , force quit the app, delete the app and reinstall it.

@Fschw This kind of distance inaccuracy reminds me of one use case when a user was tracking walks as an Outdoor Workout. By any chance, any of your steps are acquired during tracking the activity that may not be added to your daily distance (examples: Outdoor Workout, Bike - you'll get steps, you won't get distance)?

No. We do a 1.2 mile walk around our neighborhood everyday.

Just got my charge 6 two days ago and am already concerned with its accuracy. Different reading between the pedometer on the phone and the one on Fitbit. Woke up this morning with a distance showing already.

Hello @SunsetRunner

I suspect that the pedometer on your phone has a different way of tracking your steps compare to your Charge 6.

Your Charge 6 is a wrist worn tracker with a 3-axis accelerometer and uses arm movement to track steps. This is why users who push strollers & carts will often see fewer steps due to less arm movement.

Be sure your GPS in the Fit Bit is #1 turned on and see if that helps if not #2 tell the FitBit to use your phone GPS instead of it's internal GPS.

Thanks.
How come there’s a step count on the device when I wake up in the morning while I’m still in bed?

@SunsetRunner How many steps are you waking up with? It's not uncommon for me to get maybe 10-50 steps throughout the night as a I toss and turn.

@SunsetRunner Sounds like you must toss and turn or maybe your watch isn't strapped on tight enough so it's moving around a lot at night.

Arm movement in your sleep. Just sit in a chair and raise and lower your
watch arm. You’ll pick up steps.

I have the same issue another area which I don’t understand is the map. It only tracks half of my walk I do daily. Sadly the device I feel was not ready for consumer use.
