Did you mean:

Charge 6 is rediciously inaccurate with step count

Title says it all really.

I downloaded the app, no settings for stride options, no settings for height, only settings for weight under food and nutrition.

I either have to weigh the strap too tight, or the slightest movement sets off my step counter. Utter nonsense.

Please tell me somebody figured this out?

I've it a day and am already planning on returning the stupid thing and getting a second hand charge 4 instead.

Hello @Conwurm

This help article has the instructions on how & where to set your stride: How does Fitbit calculate my daily activity? (<-- click link)

You set your height in your personal information page in the Fitbit app:

  • From the Today page in the Fitbit app, tap on You in the lower right.
  • Tap on the tile with your name to open your Personal page
  • Tap on Height to set it & tap Save

Thank you for your answer. But unfortunately after trying this, I still have no luck. I appreciate your reply though!

According to this **ahem** device I have somehow walked 1000 steps sitting at my desk and walking to the kitchen and back throughout the morning.

If anybody is googling about getting the Charge 6 -  DONT.

This is an issue with the device itself, no amount of settings for height, stride can offset the fact it thinks typing are steps.

Hopefully I can return this on Monday as I am honestly flabbergasted how utterly crap it is and I dont want to be out 190 euros

I’m having the same problem. Slightest movement of my non-dominant hand records as steps 😳. I have back issues and can barely move around, the charge 6 makes me look like I’m so very active and I’m far from it. I have till the end of March to return and may do that tomorrow. I went from living room to kitchen and it recorded 167 steps when I literally took 20, and that’s being generous.

Welcome to the forums @Conwurm @SunsetRunner

Thank you for taking the time to share all this feedback regarding Charge 6. Sorry to know the unexpected behavior that you are having with the tracker.

Nevertheless, please I'd ask you to make sure to not use "Mobile track". It is a service that allows you to count steps using your phone even if you forget to wear your Fitbit.  Steps counted by Mobile Track using your phone will be uploaded to your Fitbit dashboard. It is possible that you set it up unwittingly.

Please in your Today tab, go to the upper left side, tap on the device and phone icon. On the account screen scroll down to "Phone" and click on the 3 dots and choose "unpair".

To know more infomation about MobileTrack, you can also visit the following link: How do I use Fitbit MobileTrack?

Thanks for providing this accurate information @RiekoC

This is probably the worst device for tracking steps. Especially for training for a marathon. Was pretty bummed. Unfortunately returning my fitbit this morning.

If I wear my Fitbit charge 6 around my ankle it counts my steps properly; With Fitbit charge 4 I burned a lot more calories, so I don't know which one is correct?

Whatever you do,  don't buy a Charge 6 and potentially any Google branded Fitbit.  Extremely inaccurate, and I mean extreme.  Like 65 kilometres walked in 60 minutes and 6 thousand calories burned, etc.  Reality is 6 kilometres and about 1000 calories.  I have tried all possible reset and configuration options in both the Charge 6 device and the fitbit app.  The previous versions of these before bought out by Google worked well.
