I have tried your solution with just taking the one step to turn location services on for the app. always and it seems to have solved my issue with going in and out of airplane mode and still having the status on the screen stuck on disconnected. Also I am not seeing the disconnected status when I leave the room where my phone is. Thank you so much for coming up with this fix to try! It seems to have fixed it. I am on iOS 18.4.1.

I may have spoken too soon. I did a workout this morning and went out of range of my phone. It disconnected and showed the disconnected status. When in range again, it didn't automatically reconnect. I did a refresh of everything and got it connected again. A couple of hours later my phone did a Play Store update and Fitbit was one of the apps updated. It disconnected again and won't reconnect again. Back to wiping it again and refreshing. Fun times. I had a Charge 4 before getting the Charge 6, but I think it's time to look elsewhere...

I just did a Charge 6 update yesterday. Now I’ve been getting the phone with slash at the top of my watch. It doesn’t matter if I’m close to or away from my iPhone. Bluetooth is connected. Does this affect my tracking in any way?

I've been having the same issue with the Charge 6 showing as disconnected and not syncing with the app. I've tried restarting both the Fitbit and my phone several times. I've deleted the app and reinstalled. I've cleared storage. I've cleared the user date from the Fitbit and resynced it which helps for a while but eventually just disconnects. I've checked that the location is set to always and I've selected the status tray as to not show.
I'm on Android 11 and the Fitbit firmware is 66.20001.214.24
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone,
Thanks a lot for all the updates you have shared with us so far; it is really appreciated!
Let me confirm that we are actively looking for a solution to this issue and looking forward to getting you all back on track. Since we are still looking into this issue, and as some of you have already found, there is a small workaround. Please do the following:
By doing this, your device might stop popping up this icon. I hope this is helpful for you while we work on getting an actual solution!

Mine says 'status tray'. Also, I don't think the status is the problem, as it is correctly telling me it is not connecting to the phone and app. As such, it's not getting calls or text notifications or updating my data. I noticed yesterday it disconnected when I was out of range and failed to reconnect. After I reconnected by wiping data in both app and Charge, I noticed location permissions were again displaying an error so I allowed always location again. However, this time I have not reviewed security to update to the new 'more secure Bluetooth' option. Today, when I was out of range, the status notice displayed but when I was in range again it reconnected. I think your issue is a combination of the location permissions and the secure Bluetooth not connecting or reconnecting when it goes out of range.

I had the same issue yesterday and I wiped everything again and reconnected, doing the same always location etc. However, this time I didn't do the 'review security' bit with the new Bluetooth. It seems to be when you go out of range of the phone, the Charge disconnects but does not reconnect. Today, I've been out of range, and the status alert came up but when I went to my phone it has reconnected. So try and redo what you did, but not the secure Bluetooth bit, and see if this works!

I have also been having this issue and it started after I updated my Charge 6 two days ago. I have done your workaround for now but look forward to the issue being resolved. My phone operates iOS 18.5
